The trilogy already solved that tension for itself with its two disruptors. The Mule breaks the prediction precisely because a single unpredictable individual is what a mass model cannot see. The Second Foundation works only because the people maintaining the Plan have to stay hidden to keep it true.\n\nSo I would put weight behind the point @mic_al raised. Hidden objectives or a Second Foundation traitor layer would not just be flavour; it would be the mechanism that resolves the core design problem. The feeling you want at the table is players acting freely, while a Plan insists their freedom does not matter, and the live possibility that someone is quietly steering it. Asymmetric information is the natural language for that.\n\nOne question for the team: is the Seldon Plan a shared track everyone reads, or something only some players can see? That single choice probably defines the whole feel of the game.\n\nThe analog-future art direction fits the same logic. A setting about deep time and ideas wants images that leave room to imagine. And Asimov's Dr. Susan Calvin is another example in the Robot books. Whole Foundation idea is that individuals are not important. Trends are important. Individuals are only tools for manipulating the trends. Most characters that appear there are male, but their gender has largely no role in the events.\n\nSaid that: 1) I find it a bit sad that instead of commenting on the quality and the care of the (hand-made) illustrations or on the project, the focus is on this issue, especially considering that we don't know anything about the proejct (as far as we know , the 16 characters are not necessarily the totality) -of course, there would be tons of comments were the developers decided to use AI-generated artwork, aka we are never happy and always find something to complain..\n\nGoing back on track, the Foundation has such a specific character and focus that's very difficult to translate into any medium (TV series, video games...), so I'm very curious to know how it will be translated into a board game. It's surely a great and unique creation of science fiction, so I'm crossing fingers! The trilogy already solved that tension for itself with its two disruptors. The Mule breaks the prediction precisely because a single unpredictable individual is what a mass model cannot see. The Second Foundation works only because the people maintaining the Plan have to stay hidden to keep it true.\n\nSo I would put weight behind the point @mic_al raised. Hidden objectives or a Second Foundation traitor layer would not just be flavour; it would be the mechanism that resolves the core design problem. The feeling you want at the table is players acting freely, while a Plan insists their freedom does not matter, and the live possibility that someone is quietly steering it. Asymmetric information is the natural language for that.\n\nOne question for the team: is the Seldon Plan a shared track everyone reads, or something only some players can see? That single choice probably defines the whole feel of the game.\n\nThe analog-future art direction fits the same logic. A setting about deep time and ideas wants images that leave room to imagine. Looking forward to the Bologna reveal.\n\nWell, there could be factions.\n\nThere could be the Empire: This faction might have great economic wealth, dominant presence, and sheer inertia/momentum but stagnant growth. (Figure something like the Marquis/Cats in [](https://boardgamegeek.com/#), where they cover the board. And this Empire faction would have little in the way of engine building, but could maybe try to win the game militarily before the other factions get running.)\n\nThere could be the First foundation: They have traders and technology and slowly grow in power. They start on an inaccessible fringe of the board (maybe certain political \"war fever\" levels are needed to attack them as they start with a status as 'officially sanctioned by the Emperor' or something) and have few, but powerful units; which get better with their tech upgrades.\n\nThere could be Second Foundation: They start on an unknown planet (kind of like the rebel base in [](https://boardgamegeek.com/#))and have the ability to influence and convert units or technology. And they play cards that actually subvert the moves or tech of other players but they don't really have much unit presence on the board. (And maybe there's an aspect of hidden movement to their actions.)\n\nThere could be the Mule, and his forces.\n\nAnd so on... (Robots?
