What is this?

This is a weekly roundup of board game crowdfunding projects, featuring new launches from the past week and campaigns ending in the coming week. The information is sourced from Kickstarter, Gamefound, and Backerkit.

The list is curated through a combination of automated data collection and manual review, so occasional errors or omissions may occur. If you notice a missing project, feel free to mention it in the comments. Only projects meeting the selection criteria outlined below are included.

Selection Criteria

Projects must meet the following conditions to be included:

Timing: The project was either launched in the last week or will end in the coming week.
Relevance: The project is directly related to board games.
- Excludes: Accessories not strongly related to board games, furniture, RPGs (e.g., D&D, Pathfinder), video games, STLs, painting tools, events, podcasts, and magazines.
- Exception: Projects offering promos or similar content for board games are eligible.
Backers: The project is expected to reach at least 100 backers by the end of the campaign.
Funding Status:
- The project is expected to reach at least 90% of its funding goal.
- The project has already achieved at least 20% of its funding goal.

In addition to the main lists, I include a separate section for noteworthy projects that don’t strictly qualify as board games. These projects are included based on a single criterion:

Backers: The project currently has more than 1,000 backers.

QuestionMaximum Apocalypse – Best Character (combination)?

Today I finished Wasted Wilds, playing two-handed, testing every Character the world of Maximum Apocalypse has to offer.

My favorite character: "Curse Chaser" (in terms of playstyle)
She just has the perfect "speed" in regards of moving, scavanging and stunning threats while digging through the deck to set up the engine. And what really sets her apart is "I am Death": Trading hunger for a ticket to hell with a steady 2HP pace while taking everybody with me! – I love her.

Yet the "best" character: "Beekeeper"
Handles hunger and status effects without scavanging;
Tanks 28/30 HP, and on top distributes damage of 5/6/7/9 HP to Animal Companions;
And, can even one shot a whole Boss with the "Wood Chipper";
– To me, the most effective but also overpowered Character.

Honorable mention: "Adventurer"
A very capable and fun Character, with a super intense feeling, because the "Golden Idol" might show up to wreck your whole engine... twice – but, then you also got the most powerful instant-multi-kill weapon in the whole game... twice :). Fun Character!

Least favorite character: "Time Traveler"
The Time Pod is a fun and clever way to deal with the board, and the time manipulation and the anomalies feel refreshingly quirky; but it feels more like a gimmick and less like a survivalist.

What this is:

This is a weekly, curated listing of Kickstarter board game projects that are either:

newly posted in the past 7 days, or
ending in the next 7 days (starting Aug 08) and have at least a fighting chance of being funded.

Betrayal At House On The Hill Questions

These questions are about the Death Doth Find Us All haunt, so spoilers ahead for that. In the traitors tome it lists the effect of decades have on traitors, but stops at 70s+.. I took that to mean you suffer the same effect at 80, etc because the text says it "ages them to dust" but without revealing that I had no other haunt specific way to kill them it was hard to convince them. My other argument was that they'd be able to to age to 140 with no problems?

The other thing is, in the survivalist handbook it says to set aside 5 knowledge role tokens, and later it says to do the ritual equal to the number of players, which I thought included the traitor, but taking out five implies it's the max since six would be max players. Is this clarified anywhere?

The last thing was that the person with the medallion once de-aged because they misread the rule and thought it meant they couldn't go below their starting age and as the traitor I didn't know the exact rule, so it might have played out differently with less stats but that's not as big of a question as the other two.

Today, we're releasing four print-and-play demo decks! Feel free to print whichever ones you want. Keep in mind that there are some with lower complexities, and we do recommend you trying those decks out first. We will be available to answer questions as often as possible!

WINTERBORN | Manifest Cryomancer

Attack: High | Defense: Moderate | Utility: Low | Complexity: Low

The Winterborn uses numerous Slow and Disarm effects to hinder their enemies, all the while dealing moderate damage. After their enemy is heavily controlled, they freeze them in a torrent of icy power for massive damage. We recommend playing this deck against the Steward deck if you are new to strategic card games.

STEWARD | Witch Warrior

Attack: Moderate | Defense: High | Utility: Moderate | Complexity: Low

The Steward relies on its powerful defenses to be a brutal front line fighter. Armed with heavy hitting attacks and ways to disrupt their opponent, the Steward deck packs a punch while taking care of itself. We recommend playing this deck against the Winterborn deck if you are new to strategic card games.

HUNTSMAN | Druid Warrior

Attack: High | Defense: Low | Utility: Low | Complexity: Moderate

The Huntsman ruthlessly hunts its prey, stacking high amounts of control to lock them down and maim them with a flurry of deadly axe strikes.

SURVIVALIST | Cryomancer Druid

Attack: Moderate | Defense: Moderate | Utility: High | Complexity: High

The Survivalist is extremely scrappy, equipped with varied and powerful means of escaping damage and disrupting their opponent.

You can find the demo decks here. The 'deck' PDF will need to be printed 3 times for a complete deck, while the 'Feat' PDF will only need to be printed once. The deck cards go into the deck shuffled, while the Feat cards stay out on the field at all times.

There are some aspects of the game that will not be included in this print-and-play, such as dice and an initiative token. You will need to find a way to represent the following assets for each player:

1 Action and 1 Power 6-sided die. Since the maximum amount of a resource you can have is 5, you can use the 6 to indicate 0.

1 Slow, 1 Silence, 1 Disarm 6-sided die, preferably of different colors. Similar, to resources, you can use 6 to indicate 0.

1 Initiative token.

Forbidden Desert: Custom Character Roles

As a creative exercise, I created some of my own roles for Forbidden Desert. I tried to make them balanced with each other and with the existing roles. Some are pretty bland, but I think others are pretty interesting and would be fun to play. Let me know your thoughts on my roles or post your own.

Engineer 4 Water When you draw a gear card you may immediately play it without discarding it. You may discard a gear card to play a different card from the discard pile. Remove the played card from the game. Players on adjacent tiles may give you gear cards for free at any time.

Field Researcher 4 Water On your turn, you may Excavate or Pick Up a Part for free.

Storm Chaser 4 Water You may take up to 1 plus the storm level actions per turn. Sand Tiles cannot be placed on your tile or adjacent tiles

Survivalist 5 Water You may take up to 5 actions per turn.

Collector 4 Water Gain a bonus action per turn for each Flying Machine part you have. Players on your tile or adjacent tiles may give you Flying Machine parts for free at any time. Whenever a Flying Machine part is placed on a tile, you may immediately take 1 action.

Spelunker 3 Water You may move between any two unblocked excavated tiles, as long as one of them is a tunnel. You may remove any sand present on the tile you move to for free.

Has anyone developed any Xbox-style achievements for their games? I'd love to see what people have come up with. There are some below that my group created with the intent of creating small, cheap buttons that the achievers can wear on game days as badges of honor. I think a good number of these were also taken from lists on BGG.

Global Achievements (for any game)

Beat Zach - Beat Zach at any game (bonus if it's a head-to-head game!) (note to reddit: zach is my brother and always wins everything)

Get Kraken - Achieve every Kraken-based achievement

Chicken Chaser - Achieve every “At least I have chicken ” achievement

It's Good to Beat the King - Achieve every Scott-based achievement

Let It Be - Play a co-op game without dictating others' moves

Analysis Paralysis (negative achievement) - Get multiple players to complain that you're taking too long

Looking for post apocalyptic/wastelandish type board games and or alternate versions of exisiting games in this same light. Any suggestions?

I want something gritty, grungy, survivalistic, good artwork and build quality is a plus.

I once built my own version of settlers, called it settlers of the wasteland, changed all the resources to junk, made the thief a a group of raiders, and changed the dessert tile into fallout.

Would love to see any post apoc games cenetered around rebuilding civilization, resource gatyhering, modular boards or just thematic elements...

Im aware of more in depth rpg games, like gamma world and their is a fallout themed pnp floating around on the tubes, but would be interested in any dedicated board games of this light.
