Did the organisers give a reason for giving away your both?

Did you message them to say you were delayed?

[–]FTG_V1[S] 385 points386 points  (4 children)

The manager has not even talked to us or come by. We worked with just someone that was texting the manager.

It is what it is, we’ve made the best of it. And everything is going well now!

[–]zatchstarXia Legends Of A Drift 158 points159 points  (0 children)

I would definitely throw a fit after the con and make sure to get some of what you paid for a premium booth spot back.

[–]MrAbodi18xx 35 points36 points  (2 children)

Going well how? You’ve been setup somewhere else?

[–]FTG_V1[S] 76 points77 points  (1 child)

We got a spot, but it was later in the day. So we are very busy and lots of people signing up for our crowdfund email list!

[–]3possuminatrenchcoat 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your positive attitude, thank you for that awesome example of cooler heads prevailing. Its also okay to get mad sometimes, and thats something to be mad about. You probably got the person who took your space's original booth space and should be fairly compensated for the downgrade. The sheer audacity of the manager to not come by and make it right personally looks like gross negligence and dodging accountability,  I wonder if the space hoppers are personal friends of theirs

Had to work gen con a few years, its amazing in the chaos that takes place that anything gets done at all at those events.

[–]Amirashika 58 points59 points  (1 child)

Honestly, get a couple of chargers and put up a sign to say "Free phone charging" and you'll get plenty of people hanging around.

[–]FTG_V1[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Fantastic idea!

[–]TomClem 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The mods may be divided about this post. You bought a corner booth and got a booth by a corner. Enjoy the lemonade!

[–]moxxon 35 points36 points  (2 children)

Don't you pay for a booth. You seem calmer about things than I would have been.

[–]BringBackBoomer 35 points36 points  (0 children)

They can spend time being upset about the circumstances and argue with the organizers or they can spend time pitching their product and trying to land customers. One has a higher return than the other and the organizers will be available after the convention, the attendees are a lot harder to reach after they're out of the building.

[–]FTG_V1[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We did. But we also know everyone human and not much we can do now. I was mad at the time, but frankly me and my partner are still pretty busy with the traffic so, while not perfect, it is what it is and we will make the best of it.

[–]autisticZoreille 150 points151 points  (3 children)

Hey man, looks great, all that matters in the end is that if it's a great game people will come. The rest just adds notches to your belt. it's easier to find an electrical outlet anyways !

[–]FTG_V1[S] 50 points51 points  (0 children)

That’s very true! We’ve seen a lot of traffic and amazing comments. Having a blast talking about the game with everyone. The even better news is people signing up!

[–]Otherwise_Leg_9509 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Well, that’s not ALL that matters. Getting what you paid for, and basic response from the event managers also matters.

[–]TacoBell_HotSauc3 70 points71 points  (10 children)

I was planning on setting up a booth at Origins next year. I wanna see how this pans out, because how they handle it will affect whether or not I wanna assume the risk of getting rug-pulled by the organizers.

[–]FTG_V1[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they would rug pull anyone.

It seems the team got overwhelmed and didn’t get/read message as they were busy doing other things.

Would we come again next year? Possibly. If we were on time our spot would have been available for us, but like I said they missed our outreach. Not ideal but we can better plan for such things in the future.

I can make a fuss over a spilt drink, or move on and put my energy into things that matter and have a positive effect. I’ll reach out to them when I’m rested, on my time and after I’m done giving my attention to all these cool people stopping by!

I’m an introvert at heart so the event is already taxing enough without adding conflict. Let’s talk games! I’ll deal with this in the aftermath.

[–]SupeRaven 21 points22 points  (1 child)

Umm... that organizer should be aware they can't block those panels. At the very least 18" in front and to each side.

Keep an eye out for the Fire Marshal.

[–]FLHARLEYGUY84 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I do a lot of shows, and the fire marshal walkthrough is usually the day of setup (or prior for booths with known/reported items that generate smoke, have heat, or are vehicles). unless there is a complaint, that fire marshal ain't coming back.

But I'm on your side, i wouldn't shove things in front of the breaker panels because that's a dumb way to be in the way if someone needs to turn things on or off, and they won't gently move your table out of the way.

[–]kelssyk 27 points28 points  (1 child)

I find it deeply, and humorously, ironic that at study called FUSION Theory is making a game called Divided.

[–]FTG_V1[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hahha funny enough I haven’t even thought about that.

[–]NecroDaddyGaia Project 14 points15 points  (2 children)

With the attention you are getting for your game you should set your game image on BGG.  Additional info and images in BGG wouldn't hurt too.

[–]FTG_V1[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We actually input the visuals before we left. Waiting on the mods to approve, (I think we just got approved the over day but haven’t had time to check) it took them a bit of time to approve the game. (About a month)

[–]FTG_V1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And our images I pre uploaded were
Approved. I just suggested our 2D flat game box as the representative picture. So I guess now we wait!

[–]TheSpanxxxStar Realms 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Best of luck! I still have a "best of origins.." trophy on my bookshelf 20+ years after my first (and only) show there. Some incredibly fond memories and a surreal moment when Richard Garfield came through and said "this is my favorite new product here. I'll take one of everything you have, and I want to know if you're going to be at my con (GenCon)". We already had our entrepreneur booth booked for later in the summer there. It was a whirlwind time in my life that felt like dreams lining up like dominos. Soon after, my biz partner and I found ourselves eating dinner in a small Mexican restaurant just the two of us and Larry Elmore after spending over 2 hours hanging out with him at his home studio.

After 2 successful years we were ready to launch to suppliers but life got in our way. New jobs, new kids, tough choices. This was before Kickstarter and the capital to get launched was a blocker for us (at the time it felt bigger than it was, we were very young). And so we closed it down.

I give you my story only to say this, "don't let the challenge get you down. Milk it all in and enjoy every minute!"

[–]FTG_V1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your story! We actually had Jason the designer for twilight struggle stop by our booth, had a really nice chat with him. Good time all around “this looks really good” I’ll take the praise!

Feels really nice to have braid affirmation that people are resonating with the game, getting a lot of positive praise backed up by signing up for updates. We get positive feedback from players test but always good to have that from an even larger crowd and industry veterans.

[–]adultfk90 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Well commit to the plug, brother! What's your game about, how far in development, ideas on price, where can we see more, etc

[–]FTG_V1[S] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

You can see more at www.fusiontheorygames.com

Game is a war stray game with deck building. Think axis and allies meets slay the spire. Based on a near future American civil war. Create your own faction with our state draft, has simultaneous play for most of the game except movement where your decisions impact others. Battles play out with dice and card that can combo off each other, Medium heavy weight, 2-6 players, playing about 2.5 to 4 hours, with a very quick setup time of 5 minutes. (Yes it really is 5 minutes)

Game is at the end of development, just minor balance and clary tweaks on cards. Crowdfund to start late October or early February.

Thanks for the plug opportunity!

[–]adultfk90 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Signed up for the email reminder for the kickstarter. I got you!

[–]FTG_V1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you kind person!

I didn’t mention this but we are doing a raffle for everyone that signs up at origins to give away a free copy of the game when it gets made. So you”ll be apart of that!

So stay tuned to your email, we will announce the winner about two weeks after origins.

After our crowdfund is successful (manifesting here) we will also be giving everyone who pledges a free digital table top simulator version of game within a month of successful crowdfund. That will of course include the winners of this raffle!

So check your spam, good chance our welcome email ended up there as it’s a new list.

[–]VindicoAtrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 minutes 🤔

[–]DroopyPlum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how this stuff works, do u have to pay for ur booth spot? If so do all spots cost the same, if not were u reimbursed?

[–]gl00mybearScythe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend ordering or bringing anti-fatigue matting next time. As someone who's done a few trade shows it makes a world of difference when you're standing all day on concrete.

[–]csgraber 17 points18 points  (9 children)

Maybe next time it’s worth it flying the night before ?

[–]SpencerJones909 25 points26 points  (2 children)

100% this. I work in concert production and we fly out the day before our gig so there’s no issues day of in case of delays, cancellations, etc less stress. You are rested.

[–]diearzte2 14 points15 points  (1 child)

I organized an event and we flew out a week early. That’s overkill for most things by a lot, but flying in day of is asking for trouble.

[–]SpencerJones909 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% ❤️

[–]AsmorCosmic Encounter 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The idea of flying in and then immediately setting up for a big convention just seems crazy to me. Not because of risk or logistics, just because... holy fuck, the last thing I want to do after sitting on a plane for a few hours is work.

[–]FTG_V1[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Haha 100% lessons learned.

[–]Dracius 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I travel a lot for work and I was going to give the same advice.

Flights can and do get delayed a lot, or canceled entirely, so if the meeting/convention is important, it's best to arrive a day early. It's also nice because then you can wake up fully rested instead of trying to go into a meeting/convention immediately after a long flight.

[–]FTG_V1[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup, frankly this was a poor decision on my part. Lessons learned and we will move on and get better for it.

[–]jaywinnerDiplomacy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, I've missed a cruise for trying to fly in day of and getting screwed.

[–]ackmondualRace for the Galaxy[🍰] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing probably didn't want to spring for hotels, and deal with the logstics between going from there with your stuff, to the con

[–]Wrights66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw your booth and chatted with a fella there for a bit. Game has amazing art and I'll be watching for the Kickstarter later this year.

[–]Zealous217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey sorry this happened to you OP. I won't and don't eat to argue who is what here, but I did stop by and see your game today when I was there. Thanks for chatting and showing us your game!

[–]cubbiesnextyr 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Let me know how Origins goes, I might attend next year as an attendee, check out games, etc.

I'm going to PAX Unplugged this year, went to Gen Con last year. Trying them all out to see how they are.

[–]rpete717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been to all of them a number of times, and my usual rotation now is Origins and Unplugged - they are nearly 6 months apart which gives good coverage for the year. Usually what is being demoed at Unplugged is on sale at Origins and vice versa, though Origins seems to be less geared toward moving product (my opinion, seems like product can sell out early in the con, I assume people are bringing less). GenCon is a once every 5 years at best occasion for me now - it's just too damn hot in and out of the convention center and Indianapolis is not equipped for the number of people that beset upon it. Last two times I only went because there were late hotel cancellations right near the con.

[–]ilario_entertainment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're making the best out of a really unfortunate situation, so kudos to you and the team! Hope things are turning out well.

[–]qatox 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How many player is it for?

[–]FTG_V1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2-6 players. Plays in about 2.5-4 hours, simultaneous play for most of the game except the movement phase to keep players engaged and minimize down time. Lots of table talk with how you can help your allies in their battles with contingency card.

I could talk all day about it, even after 8 hours after the convention haha

[–]Rebles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That really sucks and I am sorry. Next year, arrive a day earlier so a delayed plane doesn’t cost you your booth.

[–]bchagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"delete if not allowed"

[–]Mekisteus -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Pssst... don't let OSHA see these pictures.

[–]FTG_V1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like our spec ops deck we have plans and contingencies if they do lol
